Middle-earth Network is Switching Servers

Where were you October 4, 2011? Well apparently most of you were right here on one of Middle-earth Network’s websites. So many of you, in fact, that the high traffic caused our server to crash! For a temporary solution we’ve turned off some of our social site’s apps, but the numbers are in. Even now we are growing so fast that our server cannot keep up, so we’re moving to a new one.

The switch will happen all day Wednesday, October 12, and will we be back up and running at 100% by Thursday. Until then, be prepared for possible down time if our numbers climb again.

This is amazing news, Middle-earthlings! How exciting is it to see our community growing at such a fast pace? It’s wonderful have a place where we can all gather together like the Inklings did at the Eagle and Child. Only here, we gather from all over the globe. Onward and upward!

  1. Maybe this isn’t the right place to post this (I did think the site would be up by now… past 1:30PM EST), but it’s been hard to find a place to post anything. Is the new hardware we are moving to capable of supporting massive growth or is this, too, a temporary fix?
