War in the North Impending UK Release – Nov 25th.

So how many of you Lord of the Rings (LOTR) fanatics will be purchasing the latest Tolkien themed installment - War in the North (WITN) from Snow Blind Studios ? Well the game itself is released in the UK on the 25th of November in direct competition with Modern Warfare 3 (MW3) released on the 8th of November, will this affect sales ? Well I’m sorry to say that yes it will but only for a short time. Most Diehard LOTR fans will surely be purchasing it on release day as I will and I expect sales of the game to pick up once all the MW3 hype has died down.WITN has already had its US release so we in the UK as always have to wait patiently behind our American cousins for the goods.

The screenshots I have seen of the game it looks graphically pleasing, even more so the cut scenes, here is a link to the trailer so you can decide for yourself. Gameplay information will be posted as soon as I have played the game long enough to give an honest and well researched opinion. My only worry for the game is it looks driven, it does not look like a free roaming game and more route planned which takes down the exploring factor but for some gamers that could be a blessing as on huge maps less expierienced or younger players may get confused or even lost in the wilds of Middle-Earth.

The game contains 3 would be Adventures consisting of  Farin a Dwarven warrior, a Human Ranger named Eradan and of course no game like this would be complete without a Spell Caster – the female Elf Adriel trained by Elrond himself. All the charachters have unique abilities to aid the quest such as Farin being able to mine Gems for component use, your friends also have abilities but I don’t want to give too much away. WITN is also Online compatible letting you join up with friends to fill the boots of the 3 would be Hero’s or as a single quester you control them yourself with AI used to improve response and usability.

WITN contains some of the most famous locations in Middle-Earth. Confirmed locations include the Ettenmoors, Fornost, Mirkwood and Mount Gundabad. Locations from the movies also appear in the game. Players can explore Bree and Rivendell and interact with the characters there which include Gandalf, Frodo and Aragorn to name but a few. Characters from the books can also be expected to appear in the game. Elrond’s twin sons, the Ranger Halbarad, and Radagst are confirmed.

I hope you find this post informative and remember to look out for my full review coming soon. If you have any queries contact me on here or via Twitter user name @Merpers and of course @MiddleEarthNews.

  1. War in the North is actually in competition with a ton of games. :/ In America, it came out the same day as Uncharted 3, then on the 11th is Skyrim, followed by the new Assassin’s Creed and Halo Anniversary (both on the 15!). And those are just the games off the top of my head. A ton of stuff (especially huge blockbuster game titles) comes out in November that will contest for sales. I’ve read more than a few comments from people who considered looking at the WitN, then said, “Nevermind.”

  2. wow. didn’t know there was already a review! I’m releasing mine today.More story-ish. :-)

    • I’ll be interested to read it! :)

I never got around to doing mine, but I analyzed the crap out of interviews and marketing before the game’s release. The short version is I wasn’t impressed. :/
