MEnet Member Spotlight: Meet Roland!

Written by My Middle-earth member, thechadillac.

Hail and well met friends, the holidays have come and gone, but not the Member Spotlight!  This week our guest is Roland, known on My Middle Earth as Hilly Greenfield.  Roland hails from Latvia, but has roots from Latvia and Russia, self described as a Hobbit from Bree-Town now living in Hobbiton.  At twenty-four years old, Roland works in investment banking.

Of all of Roland’s hobbies the one passion that is dearest is Middle-Earth.

I am great Tolkien fan. I re-read The Hobbit, The Lord of the Rings and Silmarillion at least once per year. I believe in Middle-earth as children believe in Santa Claus.  When I first read The Hobbit, I didn’t like it much. That was when I was in the third degree in school, and we have got one chapter (Chapter 8: Flies and Spiders) from The Hobbit book in our schoolbook as a part of acquaintance with foreign literature for children. But four years later I read The Lord of the Rings, and I love it. Then I read The Hobbit and The Silmarillion (my favorite book). First i read it in russian language and only then (few years later) in english. Of course I also read all other books about Middle-earth, written by Christofer Tolkien.

If really, I read a lot. Not only fantasy. I just like reading. Also I love to make supplements and quests for DnD, Pathfinder and The One Ring RPG. In the GM work the best part I like, is to create game world =) When I have some free time (really small amount in my life) I try to play in different LCG, CCG and board-games, especial related to the Middle-Earth.

I spend some time playing LOTRO. But I don’t level up since The Mines of Moria expansion, because I think there are a lot of lore-breaking. It is one of the reasons why I spend so many times roleplaying in the Shire. I play both on Landroval (as Hilly Greenfield) and Laurelin (as Hily Greenfield in the ”People of the Shire” Kinship).

Roland first heard about Dunedain Radio in LOTRO, which lead to MME.

I like community, music and podcast on the radio, so I will going to come back every week (everything depends from my free time). One more reason what keeps logging me in to My Middle Earth – it is Middle-Earth mature community. I noticed that in all forums and games related to the Middle-Earth I can find great people. It is only one fantasy universe that holds together so many creative and interesting people, and this universe is Middle-Earth.

I had a phenomenal time meeting Hilly Greenfield, I hope you did as well.  I give the last words to Roland, until next time friends.

I like that My Middle Earth Network is still a young project, so it has a great opportunity to grow into something big and interesting to all Tolkien fans from all over the world! Happy Yule-tide everyone! Hope to see You all in My Middle Earth Network and LOTRO!
