The Return of the King with the Grand Rapids Symphony

The people of Grand Rapids are in for a treat when the third film in  The Lord of the Rings trilogy, The Return of the King, is shown accompanied by the live music of the Grand Rapids Symphony, says Mlive.

The film will be projected in HD onto a massive 20 by 48 foot screen above the orchestra whilst more than 200 musicians perform the mystical Howard Shore score along with members of the Grand Rapids Symphony Chorus and Grand Rapids Symphony Youth Chorus. The event sees the return of guest conductor Ludwig Wicki and guest vocalist Kaitlyn Lusk.

Last season at the performance of The Two Towers Lusk said ,”Howard’s music is so emotional — people just connect. I get the best view in the house, because I get to watch the audience…I don’t need to see the movie because I have it memorized by now.”

The first film in the trilogy  The Fellowship of the Ring drew 2,206 people for a single performance with the Grand Rapids Symphony in October 2009.

The Return of the King is at the DeVos Hall 17-18 February and is part of the SymphonicBoom Series.
