By now Lord of the Rings online is deep into its updating process for the roll out of the new “The Great River” update 6 (I’m even downloading the update right now!). If you’re looking for something to do to pass the hours before you can begin saving the free peoples of Middle-earth from annoying respawn timers once more then we have a round up of all the news about update 6 for you!
Middle-earth News reporter Joseph put together a great piece outlining the new areas that make up The Great River update, complete with videos, which is a must-see if you’ve got a character that’s ready to explore right away.
One of the new features coming in update 6 is the barter wallet, which should hopefully clear up a lot of space in your inventory and storage – but at a Turbine points cost. Merric has all the info on the barter wallet in a great video over at A casual stroll to Mordor.
Of course our friends Merric and Goldenstar from A casual stroll to Mordor (CSTM) have all the best LOTRO news as it happens and they’ve had a bunch of articles about update 6, as Turbine has been releasing developer diaries.
For information about the new commendations system for PvMP there is a Turbine Dev Diary and a CSTM post.
The new PvMP “Audacity” is coming in update 6. Turbine Dev diary here and CSTM post here.
There are monster class changes in update 6. The weaver has been revised, as a dev diary and a CSTM post explains. Also revised is ever favorite warg, as explained in a dev diary and CSTM post.
If you’re not a PvMP player there’s still loads for you in update 6, most notably of course is the whole new region to explore along the river Anduin. The dev diary for The Great River gives some of the background to the new area, all ably supported with the main points explained by a CSTM post of course!
If you like to group up with other players in LOTRO then the changes coming to the instance finder should be very welcome. Turbine have a dev diary about the new instance finder and a dev diary about how the instance rewards have changed. As always CSTM has the skinny on it all, pointing out the important things when those dev diaries stray into TL:DR territory, with 2 great posts from Pineleaf and Merric about the instance finder changes.
One of the big changes that is anticipated with update 6 is being able to use your soldier outside of skirmishes, in the wider world of Middle-earth. The Turbine dev diary outlines all the details of this change, while the CSTM post about it tells you why it might not be that exciting after all.
If you play a rune keeper or a warden in LOTRO then there are changes coming that will effect your class, so you’ll want to be aware before you log in and have a “ZOMG who broke my game!?!?” moment. The dev diary about the warden changes is here and the dev diary about the rune keeper changes is here. CSTM have summed up the important points about the changes in a post over here.
Finally, the all important release notes for update 6 are now available for you to look at here.
If all of this is just a bit too much reading and you want to get on with other things during LOTRO update downtime then why not listen to the latest episode of A Casual Stroll to Mordor podcast, which has Merric and (birthday gal!) Goldenstar going through all of the update news for you!
Enjoy your update 6 adventuring in Lord of the Rings Online!
