If you’ve finished you latest book and looking for another to pick up, check out Continia. Written by Junior Wilson, otherwise known as Joe “The Wigit” Wilson, Continia is a novel we can all relate to. The main character John is a lot like most people: living day to day in a dead end job with nothing to call his own, waiting for his life to take a new course. I had the pleasure of having Joe answer a few questions about himself and his book:
Middle-earth News: Thanks for taking the time out to answer a few questions. For starters, How long have you been writing?
Joe “The Wigit” Wilson: Ever since I got my first “A” in English ever, which was in my second semester of college. The A was in my Creative Writing class, and my professor said I had talent and needed to write a book. Thus I began writing shortly after that, so about 11 years now. Continia was written nine years ago.
Middle-earth News: What were the major literary influences in your novel?
JW: I am a huge fan of Piers Anthony in college, mostly his Xanth series. I have been a Huge fantasy fan growing up, and read every fantasy book I could get my hands on, including every book written by Tolkien.
MeNews: How did the idea for Continia come about?
JW: Hmm good question. It came about from a personal fantasy. I wanted to tell a story I could be emotionally involved in. If I could be that emotionally involved it should translate to my readers the same way. So far from the feedback: it has.
MeNews:Is there a sequel planned, and if so how long till that is finished?
JW: The next book in the series is actually a prequel, and I have the story planned out and about 20% written. However, podcasting has become a huge part of my life and sucked away any and all free time. I’m hoping to quit my regular job and start podcasting and writing full time, mainly the Prequel and sequel planned for Continia. I also have another idea in mind: Enter the Stupidity: a fantasy/sci-fi spoof.
MeNews:Right now Continia is only available as an e-book, are there plans to make a hard copy?
JW: As soon as a print publisher decides they want to print my book in hard copy
Also from Joe Wilson:
I wrote Continia in the first person perspective, which is rare in most books today; in order to draw the reader into John’s story from a more personal level. He is a guy from our world and seeing everything happen from his perspective allows the reader to relate easier. I have always been a firm believer that every form of entertainment has to draw from the audience’s emotion. If you walk out of a comedy movie if you’re not laughing, the movie did a bad job of it’s form of entertainment. I feel books need to draw the same emotion: I want my readers to dry when the book is sad, laugh when it is funny and get pumped with the action. I feel I achieved that with most of my readers.
One final note: This is an ebook only, and due to that the book does suffer from a poor editor. Joe warned me of this before I started reading the book. That aside, the story so far has been relate-able. The interactions between the characters is both sarcastic and comical, and Rogart, if I do say so myself, is pretty awesome. So check the book out, it’s available for download on both Barnes and Noble and Amazon! Also, if you are interested in more of Joe’s work, check out his podcasts for The Quest Gaming Network: Skyrim: Off the Record and Star Wars: Off the Record.

Good stuff Joseph. I love the highlighting of liitle known authors. One day, one will be the next Tolkien and we can all say we were there when…
